How we measure
- Every price tick (bid and ask) from demo accounts at each broker, on MetaTrader 5, standard and raw/ECN account types. For each minute we take the last quote, so a burst of ticks around a news release does not outweigh a quiet hour: the numbers answer "what spread would I pay if I traded at a random moment".
- Demo price feeds can differ from live accounts. Brokers that did not accept our accounts are not shown.
- No affiliate links, no paid placement. Order = typical spread, lowest first.

Questions
What is a normal spread on XAUUSD?
Across the 2 broker accounts we measure, the typical (median) XAUUSD spread over the last 14 days ranges from $0.08 (Exness Raw) to $0.24 (Exness Standard) per ounce, or $8 to $24 per 1 lot of 100 ounces.
Why does the gold spread widen at 5 pm New York time?
At 5:00 pm New York time the gold market takes its daily one-hour break; brokers roll positions over and liquidity providers widen prices. The first hour after the break (6:00-7:00 pm New York time) is usually the most expensive time to trade, which our session table shows for each broker.
