What this means for a trade
- Daily break 17:00-18:00 New York time. No trading for an hour; around it brokers roll positions over, charge or pay swap, and spreads usually widen.
- Weekly open. The first minutes after the Sunday open often have the widest spreads of the week. A stop close to price can be triggered by the spread alone.
- Weekend gaps. If price opens beyond a stop, the stop fills at the first available price, not at the stop level.

No. Gold (XAUUSD and COMEX gold futures) closes on Friday at 5:00 pm New York time and reopens on Sunday at 6:00 pm New York time. Some brokers sell separate weekend gold products with their own prices; they are not the regular gold market.
